“Loose Truths,” a series of seven lithographs, offers the viewer a vivid conversation between the formal and physical language of abstraction. In her signature gray-on-gray style, Amy Feldman creates lyrical propositions that bounce and pop within the confines of the paper. Feldman’s deliberate marks and reductive shapes loom large, even on this scale, measuring 28 x 28 inches. Her cartoonal lines and seductive displays of form are galvanized by direct references to the human body. According to the artist, “Each impression functions as a ‘loose truth,’ one that levels ontological boundaries.” In these lithographs, Feldman’s gray sign system serves to document. She pivots the color’s neutrality against exuberant marks, asserting her belief in the aesthetic gesture and its transformative power.
